The Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce are launching a new workforce development initiative called “Your Skills. Your Future.”

“Our goal is to create this workforce by educating the community that a well-paying career with a successful future is easily attainable and does not require massive student loan debt.” said Gary Farlow, president, and CEO of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce.

A novel approach to the student loan problem. The organizers of Your Skills. Your Future. connects the residents of Bradley County and surrounding areas with industry opportunities. They will be pushing the idea that most skill trade jobs require only a two-year degree and very little or no student loan debt.

“The reality is that there are immediate jobs available that are lifelong, sustainable careers. We want students, parents, and adults looking for a change to understand the affordability of the training needed for these jobs as well as the attainability to taking the first steps to a bright and successful future,” said Bob McIntire, a business leader and chairman of the Cleveland, Tenn.  Economic Development Council.

While this approach to helping student loan debt in America doesn’t directly affect the $1.4 trillion deficit, it does help those who realize they can’t afford to take on the debt and are looking at alternative paths. Some people think the only way toward a career is a four-year degree. That may be the case if you’re looking for a specific career or believe a four-year degree can get you further ahead in a field.
